Jessica Drummond - 2023 Northeast Elementary Teacher of the Year

Hi my name is Jessica Drummond and I'm the Speech Pathologist here at Northeast Elementary and I have been in the district for four years. So when I think of what the world look like without aspects of communication, I think of a world that is lacking in the way that we build relationships. I think of a world that's lacking in the way that we tell and listen to stories so I feel like my role as a SLP in the school is really vital and because when children become more intelligible speakers, when they're able to express their thoughts and their want their opinions and even what they need they became greater advocate for themselves educational setting too. So with greater intelligible speech with him wanting to express their hopes their dreams their wants their needs with them becoming more active and better listeners they become more successful and participating in a general education classroom. Whether it be with their teachers, their peers, administrators around the building so for me I feel like the communication aspect of what I do is really important to education. There is a quote by Todd Whitaker that the best part about being a teacher is that it matters and the hardest part about being a teacher is that it matters every day so I think that the best teachers the most outstanding teachers are ones that realize that what we do really matters. I think they're the ones that believe that were an essential part of ensuring a future where children are capable they're intelligent and they're full of knowledge and that they are ready to take on the world. So we spend a lot of Our Lives working and I've always told myself that as long as I'm working I want to enjoy where I work I want to enjoy what I do and I really want to enjoy the people I do it with. So Owasso Public Schools has really allowed me that luxury as truly finding simple joys in my everyday. I love what I do I love where I do it, it's just really wonderful to be at at school that allows me to. I'm Jessica Drummond and I am an Owasso Ram.
